Yesterday, I forgot to add that during a conversation with a young person at Bush radio, she told me how her friend was in Ireland building houses for Habitat for Humanity. How crazy is that! ! !
I was completely taken away by this – Why would someone from Africa come to Belfast to build houses (where is cold and rainy)? When I thought about it more, the poverty we have at home has different appearance to the range of poverty seen throughout the world. I suppose its something I didn’t expect, that people would want to support our communities at home.
It’s great that young people in Cape Town can get involved in International projects with organisations like Habitat for Humanity and get a different view on countries, communities and cultures, while doing something worthwhile and beneficial for other people.
However, I think if I lived in Cape Town I might head to New Zealand to help communities – Then you wouldn’t loose your summer eh?
